Job Opportunity - Work with us supporting the over 50s in South Tyneside

Make a Donation

We are very proud that we secure around £3.5 million every year in benefits and entitlements for older people living in South Tyneside.
Being an independent local charity, we are not automatically funded by the Council or the Government. We have to apply for money from Trusts and Foundations to run our services.

All of our services and activities are given on the “What we do” page. They are aimed at achieving our vision:-
“That all older people living on South Tyneside can live fulfilling lives within supportive communities”

Our Information and Advice Service provides free, independant, impartial and confidential to all the people who make use of it.
This Service, by itself, costs £80,000 per year to run.

Over a third of what we do is funded through individual donations. What your donation could provide:

£5  Means we can visit 2 isolated, lonely people
£10 Allows us to provide 4 emergency meals for those in need
£20 Will pay for a Specialist Advisor to help resolve debt or secure benefits

Any donation you make means many more people get free advice and information, as well as free access to social activities and support.
Your donation will be helping,  supporting and making a real positive difference in the lives of the older people of South Tyneside.

Without your generosity  we could not continue to help the many people we do.

Here are the other ways you can make a donation and a difference:

  • In person, using cash or cheque, at our centre in South Shields
  • By post, using a cheque made out to Age Concern Tyneside South – send to ACTS, 29 Beach Road, South Shields, NE33 2QU
  • By Bank Transfer to Age Concern Tyneside South (For bank transfer details email subject: donation to info@ac-ts.org.uk)

We will acknowledge ALL donations personally where we have an address (email will do) for the donor.

Be a Volunteer

Volunteer - We could do with your help to support the over 50s of South Tyneside

We are an independent, local charity based in South Shields dedicated to supporting ALL the people over the age of 50 in the Borough of South Tyneside. Our dedicated volunteers are a crucial part of the work we do, without their time and effort we would be unable to offer our wide range of services, activities and events.
Volunteering with us gives you the opportunity:

  • to meet new people,
  • gain work experience
  • use your existing skills and/or learn new ones
  • improve the lives of older people
  • put something back into the local community
  • stay active after retirement
  • work with friendly and supportive teams

We are always looking to recruit volunteers in roles such as Reception/Administrators, Activity Assistants, Befrienders, Drivers, Digital Inclusion Tutors and more. Working hours are whatever suits you as an individual e.g. 1 hour a week, 4 days a month. We provide all of our volunteers with a full induction to ACTS,  together with relevant informal and accredited training.

Talking about volunteers …

One of our wonderful reception volunteers Phyllis Hitcham always brings in the most delicious homemade cakes for the staff and volunteers
on Fridays, these were her scrumptious Easter offerings. Thank you for all your tasty treats Phyllis.

Raise Funds

There are a variety of different ways that you can help us to raise much needed funds. As an individual you can fundraise, by being sponsored for taking part in a personal challenge or organising an event ( a coffee morning perhaps). We really do appreciate your support and you can be certain that all the funds you raise will be used in supporting the older people in South Tyneside.

For more information call us on 0191 456 6903 and ask to speak to the Fundraising Worker.
